On May 10, 1991, Dr. Charles M. Vest was inaugurated as the 15th president of MIT during a ceremony in Killian Court. President Vest served the Institute with distinction over the next 14 years, leading MIT through a period of significant change and growth. Chuck, as he was affectionately known by his MIT colleagues, went on to serve as president of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
