This 1966 “Science Reporter” television program showcases the challenges of ensuring proper nutrition for astronauts on prolonged journeys. The film covers metabolic and caloric consumption in particular conditions of space flight, the special challenges posed by microgravity, issues of food storage and waste management, and more. Guest speakers include scientists Paul LaChance (Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, TX), Doris Calloway (University of California at Berkeley, Department of Nutritional Sciences), food technologist Donald Wescott and dieticist Mary Klicka (U.S. Army Labs, Natick, MA).
